Primary Scholarship Results: Up to Tk 600 Monthly Allowance Proposed
The Directorate of Primary Education announced the 2025 scholarship results, while officials also shared details of the current and proposed scholarship payments.
The results of the 2025 Primary Scholarship Examination were published on Sunday, July 12. The announcement was made at 12:00 pm by Shahina Ferdousi, Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education, during a press conference at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka.
According to the Directorate of Primary Education, 645,041 students from 78,810 schools registered for this year's examination. Of them, 419,982 students sat for the exam. A total of 79,246 students received scholarships, representing 38.87 percent of the examinees.
Among the successful candidates, 32,965 students received Talent Pool (Merit) Scholarships, while 46,281 students received General Scholarships.
Students who currently receive Talent Pool Scholarships are paid Tk 300 per month. They also receive a one-time annual grant of Tk 225. Students awarded General Scholarships receive Tk 225 per month along with a one-time annual grant of Tk 225.
Officials also shared details of a proposed scholarship payment structure for 2026. If approved, the monthly allowance for Talent Pool Scholarship recipients will increase to Tk 600. The monthly allowance for General Scholarship recipients will rise to Tk 450.
Speaking at the press conference, Shahina Ferdousi said the total number of scholarships remains unchanged at 82,500. She added that the one-time grant for Merit Scholarship recipients has been increased from Tk 225 to Tk 450, while the monthly allowance has been raised from Tk 300 to Tk 600.
The Directorate of Primary Education conducts the Primary Scholarship Examination. However, the scholarship payments are made by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE). Students usually begin secondary school after completing Class 5, which is why the payments are managed at the secondary level.
Under the existing rules, Primary Scholarship recipients receive financial support from Class 6 through Class 8. After completing Class 8, students take the Junior Scholarship Examination. Scholarship payments for Class 9 and Class 10 are then determined based on those examination results.
The Directorate of Primary Education is expected to provide further updates on the proposed 2026 scholarship payment structure after the approval process is completed.
