HSC and equivalent examinations in five subjects began at 10:00 am on Wednesday across 59 districts in Bangladesh. The sixth day of the 2026 examination schedule is continuing as planned under eight general education boards, while examinations remain postponed in five flood-affected districts under the Chattogram Education Board and the Madrasah and Technical Education Boards operating there.

According to the schedule, students from the Science group are sitting for Physics (Theoretical) Second Paper. Business Studies students are taking Accounting Second Paper, while Humanities students are appearing in Logic Second Paper. The Madrasah Education Board is holding the Arabic Second Paper examination, and the Technical Education Board is conducting the Business Organization and Management-2 examination.

From early morning, examinees arrived at centres in Dhaka and other parts of the country. Many guardians also gathered outside the centres to accompany the students.

The postponed examinations apply to Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban districts. The Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee announced earlier that examinations scheduled for July 13, 15 and 16 in these areas would remain suspended because of flooding and waterlogging.

Meanwhile, students are set to hold a "Long March" towards the Ministry of Education later on Wednesday. As announced earlier, the programme will begin from the BNS Center in Uttara at 1:30 pm.

On Tuesday, groups of students held demonstrations and blocked roads in Dhaka and several other areas. They demanded the suspension of HSC and equivalent examinations until the flood situation improves. They also called for fresh examination arrangements for students who could not attend the July 13 examinations because of bad weather and demanded the resignation of the Minister of Education and Primary and Mass Education.

The Inter-Education Board Examination Controllers Committee said only the examinations under the Chattogram Education Board were postponed because of waterlogging. It said conditions in the rest of the country were suitable for continuing the examinations according to the published schedule. The Ministry of Education also upheld the same decision at a high-level meeting.

This year, a total of 1,270,583 students are taking part in the HSC and equivalent examinations. The number includes 621,969 male students and 648,614 female students. Female participation is higher by 26,645 students, a trend that education stakeholders see as a positive sign for girls' education in Bangladesh.

Authorities are expected to continue the examinations under the existing schedule outside the affected districts, while the postponed examinations will remain subject to further official decisions.
