BTEB Orders 621 Institutions to Stop New Admissions
The Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) has directed 621 technical educational institutions across the country to stop admitting new students. The institutions have also been asked to submit written explanations within seven working days on why approval for their academic activities should not be cancelled or withdrawn.
The directive was issued through an office order published by the Bangladesh Technical Education Board on July 23. It applies to 443 institutions under the SSC (Vocational) curriculum and 178 institutions under the Dakhil (Vocational) curriculum.

According to the office order, the Board had earlier published a notice on its website asking the listed institutions to explain why admissions should not be suspended from the 2026–27 academic year and why permission to conduct academic activities should not be cancelled or withdrawn. The notice was issued because many of the institutions had not admitted students for a long period.
The Board said some institutions responded to the earlier notice. However, the remaining institutions did not submit any explanation. As a result, those institutions have now been instructed to provide written explanations within the next seven working days.
The order refers to the Policy-2024 on the Establishment, Conducting of Academic Activities, and Granting of Recognition to Private Technical Educational Institutions. Under the policy, institutions must meet several conditions within the required timeframe to continue their academic activities.
The Board said these conditions include regular student admissions, academic results, adequate infrastructure, recruitment of teachers and staff, functioning management committees, furniture, equipment, library facilities, and compliance with permission requirements for conducting academic activities. Other applicable conditions under the policy must also be fulfilled.
The office order states that if the required conditions are not met within the stipulated time, the Bangladesh Technical Education Board, with government approval, may cancel or withdraw permission for the concerned institutions to continue their academic activities.
The affected institutions are now expected to submit their explanations within the specified deadline, after which the Board will take further action in accordance with the Policy-2024.
