Educational Institutions to Remain Closed for 23 Days in August and September
Educational institutions across Bangladesh are set to remain closed for a total of 23 days during August and September, according to the annual holiday list prepared by the Ministry of Education. The closures include weekly holidays and government-declared observances.
An analysis of the official holiday calendar shows that educational institutions will remain closed for 12 days in August and 11 days in September. As a result, academic activities are expected to continue for 38 days during the two-month period.
Most of the closure days come from regular weekly holidays. There will be 17 Fridays and Saturdays across August and September. In addition, educational institutions will observe six government holidays for national and religious occasions.

Before August begins, institutions will also remain closed on Wednesday, July 29, for the general holiday marking Ashari Purnima. Classes are scheduled to resume on Thursday before the regular Friday and Saturday weekend.
August starts with a weekly holiday on Saturday, August 1. The month includes nine weekly holidays. Educational institutions will also remain closed for July Mass Uprising Day, Akheri Chahar Shamba on August 12, and Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) on August 26. In total, there will be 12 closure days, leaving 19 academic days during the month.
September will also have 19 academic days. Along with the regular weekly holidays, educational institutions will observe three additional holidays on different occasions. This brings the total number of closure days in September to 11.
The annual holiday calendar provides the planned schedule for educational institutions. However, education-related sources said the relevant authorities may announce additional holidays if required because of severe weather or other special circumstances.
Students, parents, and teachers are advised to follow announcements from the relevant education authorities for any updates or changes to the academic calendar.
